For Robin,

I agree that the DNA results indicate that John S Piatt was not the biological son of William and Mary Smith Piatt. But that does not rule out the possibility of John S Piatt being their grandson through an older daughter. John S Piatt was a part of the family as shown by census records and the fact that John and Mary Snider's marriage record gives his parents as William and Mary Piatt.

Also, it's possible that John S Piatt was "taken in" by William and Mary Smith Piatt for still unknown reasons. But regardless of the reasons otherwise, I believe that John S Piatt thought of William and Mary as his parents.
