The descent for Mary Ann "Polly" Piatt from the immigrant is thought to be:
Rene Piatt and Elizabeth Sheffield (m 1677) (NJ)
.Jacob Piatt and Mary Hull (NJ, he to PA)
..Jacob Piatt and Jean Paul (PA)
...Jacob Piatt and Elizabeth Dunham (Washington Co PA)
....Benjamin Piatt and, 2nd, Mary "Polly" Waddell (PA, VA, Adams Co OH)
.....Benjamin Piatt and Elmira Lavina "Myra Bayless (Adams Co OH)
......Mary Ann "Polly" Piatt
There may be a glitch in the descent between Jacob III and Benjamin Sr, but this is our best estimation at the time.
If you can get to a library which has all the volumes of the Piatt Family Newsletter you may find more information. Fort Wayne IN, the Monroe Co Library and the Ohio Genealogical Library in OH, and the DAR Library in Washigton DC are some of the libraries which have full sets of PFN.
The 1860 census online at Heritage Quest shows the family of William Holmes Sr and Jr in the same township as Benjamin and Lavina Piatt. However, the numbers of the families are not close so they may not have lived close to each other.
1860 Adams Co OH, Tiffin Twp, West Union PO
family 725/230
William Holmes Sr, 59, carpenter, 1500/250
Nancy, 54
Margaret 17
Nathan 16
John 6
family 725/731 [indicates same household as above]
William Holmes Jr, 28, carpenter, ___/305
Westley (?), 11/12
family 726/732
Thomas Holmes, 66, farmer, 4000/400
Margaret, 64
It would appear that Wm Holmes Jr's wife had died at or after the birth of their son 11 months before the census.
All individuals were born in OH except Thomas Holmes, b PA, and wife Margaret, b VA. At that time all of West Virginia was Virginia so Margaret could have been from the area of Ohio Co WV, near PA. If Thomas should be a brother to William Sr, the difference in their birthplaces would narrow the time in which the Holmes family moved to OH.
The family of Benjamin and Lavina Piatt was #793/799.
There were so many Lemon families in the 1880 census online at
http://www.familysearch.org.
that I did not pursue the search. The 1880 census is a free service at that website. You may have luck there looking for Lemons.
