For Anita:
One Moses Piatt with two marriages? Way to easy for Piatt research. There were two Moses Piatts in Ohio at the same time. Census records show they were:
1830 Franklin Co OH, Truro twp, p 35
MOSES PIATT, 50-60
female, 40-50
male, 20-30
male, 20-30
1830 Seneca Co OH, Adams twp, p 166
MOSES PYATT, 20-30
female, 20-30
female, 10-15
male, 10-15
male, 0-5
A biographical sketch from COUNTIES OF LAGRANGE AND NOBLE, INDIANA, HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL, Chicago, F A Battey & Co, Publishers, 1882, page 423, Milford Twp, LaGrange Co IN identifies the younger Moses Pyatt as the one who married Elizabeth Parker:
<<J PYATT owns 200 acres of well-improved land in Section 33, of this township [Milford]. He is a native of Ohio, born in Seneca County, March 5, 1829, and first came to this county with his parents, Moses and Elizabeth (Parker) Pyatt, who were of French and Irish descent, in the fall of 1839, where they remained three years; then went to Kendall County, Ill, resided three years and returned...>>
The information here matches the 1830 Seneca County census with J Pyatt (yet another Andrew Jackson Pyatt) being the male, 0-5.
The 1820 census shows a family closely matching the older Moses Piatt as living in Coshocton Co OH:
1820 Coshocton Co OH
MOSES PIATT, 45+
female, 26-45
female, 16-26
male, 10-16
female, 10-16
male, 0-10
female, 0-10
female, 0-10
female, 0-10
And to confuse matters further, another 1820 census listing:
1820 Hampshire Co VA, M33, 136, p 269A
MOSES PIATT, 26-45
female, 26-45
female, 16-26
female, 16-26
While it would be easy to think that the two Ohio Moses Piatts might be father and son, Volume 5 of the Piatt Family Newsletter lists the Seneca Co Moses as the eldest child of John Pyatt and Marguerite Elder who married in Fairfield Co OH on 31 July 1803. Both John and Marguerite are listed as dying in March and June 1850, respectively, according to the Kendall Co IL Mortality Schedule. The mention of Kendall Co IL in the bio sketch of J Pyatt suggest and J Pyatt and his parents Moses and Elizabeth Parker Pyatt spent three years in Kendall Co IL, likely with or near Moses' parents John and Marguerite Elder Piatt who died there in 1850.
How may generations back do the (three?) Moses lines merge? We don't know yet, but I'll bet it isn't very many.
