Speaks of a Miss Electa Smith, Daughter of General Martin Smith. She opened
the first school in Beavertown, Beaver Co, PA. This was 1799 or 1800 when
she, with her father Martin Smith, was moving from thier home in Connecticut
to Ohio. They stayed a few days in Beavertown and the locals convinced
Electa to stay and teach.

notes that Electa's father, Martin Smith, died at Alton, IL

Pittsburgh Census of Householders taken on April 14, 1761 includes a Martin
Smith. Washington County, PA, Somerset Township, list of taxables 1800
includes a Martin Smith.
