Subject: Date preference for PIATT Researchers Conference?
Date: Fri, 8 Oct 2004 17:12:22 -0600

Traditionally the PIATT Researchers Conference has been held the last
full week of June. Tradition has also kept the conference east of the
Mississippi River.

At last year's conference, I was asked to explore the possibilities of
holding the 2005 conference in Salt Lake City. At the same time, a few
attendees asked if it would be possible to move the conference forward
one to two weeks.

Holding the conference in Salt Lake City turned out to be easier than I
had anticipated. Housing and proximity to research sites look better
than ever-both cost-wise and in terms of access. This year it also
seems that some new West Coast researchers will be joining us for the
first time.

I am now being asked for a concrete date for us to meet. Experienced
shoppers know to start early when looking for bargains on airplane
flights. In my discussions with the University of Utah, we have left
open the following dates:

June 5th-11th

June 12th-18th

June 19th-25th (the traditional week)

The individual who requested an earlier week has indicated that their
preference would be to hold the conference from June 5th-11th.

Now, I'm asking all of you. About 9-10 of you have already indicated
that you planned to attend. Those numbers are smaller than usual, but
there has been no need for anyone to make a firm commitment. There
still is no time limit-so I'm anticipating that there will be others who
will attend.

What I need to know, however, is how people feel about the proposed
date(s) or the date change. So, whether you have already told me you
plan to attend or you would like to attend, but who have yet to make a
commitment-please let me know what you think. Do we stick with the
traditional week-or is moving the conference forward an acceptable
option for you? If the week of June 5th is too early, would the week
of June 12th work better?

Feel free to contact me directly or to address the list.

Thanks for you interest!!
