As to the question about whether the PIATT-PYATT-PYEATT surname is of
French Huguenot origin...

I have done some research in English records. PIATT's started
immigrating from France to England and the Netherlands in the
mid-1500's, as did individuals with the surname FLEURY. As near as I
have been able to determine, all of these families were listed as being
Huguenot.

Rene PIATT who settled in Piscataway, NJ could have arrived there either
directly from France or he could have come by way of either England or
the Netherlands, both places of refuge for the Huguenots who fled France
in the mid-1500's. Rene's arrival in New Jersey wasn't until the late
17th century, over 100 years after the Huguenots sought refuge in
England.

The John PYATT who died in South Carolina in 1760 and mentions his
property in York County, Great Britain, could also be of French descent.
By that time, French Huguenots had been in England for about 200 years.

More to chew on!
