Sharolynn,
I did some research on this family back in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
Actually, I visited and spoke to some of the people in 1971 that were related
in this family.
In my research I did find the Will of Mary Hughes. It was written 2/27/1754
and recorded 8/7/1754. There was no date when it was proved.
Mary Hughes signed with a mark and was made in Prince Frederick's Parish,
Craven County and was then a widow. It mentions a son Henry, under 21 years of
age who received the entire estate. It mentions brother John Pyatt and George
Atkinson of Craven County. Mentions sister Catherine Pyatt. Mentions cousins
John and Ann Pyatt; George, Hannah and Mary Atkinson; Anthony and Mary
Mitchell. The executors were son Henry, Brothers John Pyatt and George Atkinson.
Witnesses were Charles Capers and Nathaniel McCormick. It was located in Will
Book 1752-1756 on page 221.
Possibly this will help you to clarify it somewhat.
Dick Piatt, PA.
