Sharolynn,
Some additional facts I have pertaining to John Pyatt the son born in 1750.
He was married to Charlotte Withers. Their son John F. Pyatt married Martha
Allston.
In 1971 I spoke to Mary Louise Doyle who owned the Pyatt-Doyle house which it
was then called and one of the homes the public could visit. I have a
picture of this house. She stated they could not state for sure who the builder of
the house was but that John F.Pyatt and wife Martha Allston owned the place
before John F. death in 1820 but were not living in it. Upon John F. Pyatt
death wife Martha and her children moved into the house.
She stated according to a descendant Sarah Parker Lumpkin, that Martha's
father had invested very well and because of this Martha was able to repurchase
her plantations called Oatland and Turkey Hill. Martha and her sons became very
successful rice planters.
This house remained in the Pyatt family until 1891. After that time the
house changed ownership many times but not in the name of Pyatt.
Mary Louise Doyle in 1971 stated that the house was going to be put on the
market as the family was grown and was too large for them.
In a small history of the house, it stated it was of South Carolina
"lowcountry architecture" of the 18th Century. The writer states that without doubt
the house had to be built from someone of the Pyatt-Allston family.
Possibly this will aid you in your research.
