For Robin,
Yes, this Anthony is in the 1880 census at
http://www.familysearch.org
but finding him took a little work. I searched for the given name "Anthony" and soundex equivalents who were born ten years either side of 1799. Individual #634 in the list was:
Hillsdale, Hillsdale MI
Anthony PYIT, head, 76 (b 1804), b NY, farmer, Ger, Ger
Dorothy PYIT, wife, 62, b Ger, keeps house, Ger, Ger
William PYIT, son, 23, b MI, farmer, NY, Ger
(The informant feels that Anthony was born in NY.)
Also in the 1880 census for MI were Anthony and Dorothy's two daughters:
Ransom, Hillsdale, MI
John Pickerington, head, 38, PA, farmer, NY, NY
Carrie Pickerington, wife, 26, MI, keeps house, FR, Ger Hesse DM
Mable Pickerington, dau, 7, NY, PA, MI
Maud Pickerington, dau, 4 NY, PA, MI
Charles Myers, other, 23, laborer, --, --
Herbert Harris, other, 16, IN, works on farm, CAN, CAN
(The informant here felt that Carrie's father was born in France.)
and
Hillsdale, Hillsdale, MI
Helen PIATT, other, 27, NY, dining room girl, Ger, Ger
in household of Albah B and Caroline F Dickinson, hotel keepers
(The informant here felt that Helen's father was born in Germany.)
So Anthony was born in either New York, France, or Germany. We are getting close! I plan to be in Canton OH at the end of the month and if I remember and have the time I will try to see the death certificate for Anthony or at least look for an obituary for him.
