Thanks! The DNA certainly settles that issue. As you noted, there are 2
direct line Vliet descendants from Dirck Van Vliet in our study-entirely
discrete results. The Flatts do not match with the Vliets and are also
entirely discrete. We are still looking for some direct line Flatts with
known origin in Piscataway to test against-if the results do not match the
other Flatts, will want to compare against Piatts.

Deb contacted me directly, too, and I thought the number of similarities
between her Flatt line and our Piatts was remarkable. They were in the same
places using the same given names. And when I looked at Deb's website:
http://www.halcyondays.com/flatt/dnaresults.htm
and saw that she considers Van Vliet to be a variation of the Flatt surname
I was hopeful that we might find a connection--a stray Piatt taking the
VanVliet>>Flatt name. Unfortunately the science says "No."
Of the several participants in the Flatt DNA study, no one comes closer than
a 6/12 match and that is not a match. Interesting that many of the Flatt
DNA participants are not R1b haplogroup which would be the first requirement
to matching the majority of our particpants.
