for Robin:

I searched the 1880 census on the given names of several children of John and Mary Snyder Piatt without success. Their daughter Margaret was born in 1879 in Putnam Co WV and and daughter Roxie Ellen was born in 1881 in Jackson Co WV. But nothing obvious jumps out of the 1880 census. Keep looking!

Thomas, b 1812, (with second wife Lydia Whiteside m 1878 Meigs Co OH) is the son of James Piatt Sr and Nancy Coleman of Monroe Co OH.

Thomas Jr (with wife Alcinda J Milhoan) is the son of Thomas Piatt Sr and first wife Emily _____.

John Milton Piatt was the son of Thomas Sr and Emily _____ and brother to Thomas Jr.

John and Mary Truax Piatt's daughter Lucinda Piatt, b 1874, is shown in PFN as marrying a Mr Barns, not Snyder or another Piatt.

I find a William and Lucinda Pyatt with children Richard, 11, Manerva, Mollie and Charles in the 1880 census for Jackson Co WV. Is this the Richard Milton Piatt?

I have not come across the Milton name in connection with Piatt in OH or WV during this time period. There were a couple of Milton families in Belmont Co and Washington Co OH in 1820 but there is no known connection as yet. There were none in relavant WV counties. Consider that Milton was a popular given name in honor of an historical, religious, or political figure. For instance, John Milton was the first Secretary of State of GA, his descendant was Gen Homer Milton of the War of 1812, and his descendant was Governor John Milton (1807-1865) of Florida.

The 1870 census for Jackson Co Wv, Mill Creek Twp shows William Peyatt and Lucinda with children Thomas R, 1, and a female, Lanza 1 month. If this William (with Lucinda) traces back to William and Mary Smith Pyatt his common ancestor with Thomas Sr (father of John Milton Piatt) should be back in NJ, maybe Rene.

Now aren't you sorry you asked?

Keep up the good work.
