Laverne, you have a real gift for this. Thanks so much! I had suspected
Elizabeth was a Snider but had not researched it yet.

Reedy is geographically close to Cuba so Bennie is probably connected
somehow rather closely. Im not familiar with him but havent checked every
nook and cranny yet either.

I havent a clue who this new Jacob is. Looks like a call to my dad is in
order. Sometimes when I call with questions like this he says "Oh yeah I
remember him..." Gee thanks, dad, Ive only been doing this for 35 years...

Will pass on anything I find, of course.

Thanks!
Robin

Subject: [PIATT] more on Snyder-Pyatt

For Robin:

Bored with the Ohio winter I went to the Ohio Genealogical Society library
last Friday to look over their meager holdings of West Virginia materials.
You may have most of this but I'm posting for the archives.

I found the marriage of John S Pyatt and Mary Katherine Snyder to be just as
posted to the list earlier. Since the marriage took place at the home of
Thomas and Elizabeth Snyder of Mason Co WV I wondered if their daughter
Lucinda was also married in Mason Co WV. She was, but of course there is an
error in the record. What else is new?

"Mason Co WV Marriage Licenses, Nov 19, 1866-Sep 18, 1870, by Violette S
Machir and Juanita K Burdette:"

Book 5, page 16:
William H Peyton, 38, farmer, b Greenbrier Co, s/o William and Mary, and
Lucinda Snyder, 18, b Jackson Co, d/o Thomas and Elizabeth
on 27-29 March 1868 by Neely Greenlee (dates of license and return?)

Let's hope that an examination of the original record will show William H
Pyatt. Everything else fits.

As posted previously, I wondered if the Snyder girls, born Jackson Co and
married in Mason Co, were always of those counties. The 1860 census, however
showed them with parents and siblings in Roane Co WV. The next household in
Roane Co was what appeared to be George Peat and wife Jane. Robin mentioned
this couple, or at least George and wife Elizabeth, in a posting last year.

"Marriages of Roane Co WV by Mary E Earl and Mrs c M Burdette," DAR
typescript, 1975:
George Peat and Elizabeth Jane Snyder, June 1859.

No further details are given in the typescript but the original record
should reveal more as do the records in Mason Co WV. So here we have George
with his wife Elizabeth and Jane, take your pick as to what she was called.
They had no children in the 1860 census which would not be unusual with a
June 1859 marriage. And Elizabeth Jane was a Snyder. Could it be that she
was another daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth who lived next door?

A couple of other Roane Co WV records:
