Laverne,
I spent several hours touring sites last night and did eventually locate the
SSDI database. The fact that you yourself had used it to locate much of my
missing information confirmed to me that it is indeed a very useful site.
I have a couple Business Accounts in the Kinston/Goldsboro area ... so I'm
going to drop in on them in the coming weeks. I'll plan an overnight stay
near the Library. I'll make a few calls in the coming days to detail out my
plan of attack.
I dug through several boxes of family heirlooms Saturday night and found 3
addresses for James Weldon in an old address book of my Great Uncle "Kenneth
Edward Piatt" b. 2/3/1911;d. 11/8/2001 Virginia Beach City, VA (My Great
Uncle and James were first cousins). One of the addresses was for
Goldsboro:
1013 B. Walnut St. Goldsboro, NC
1312 Summit Ave Fayetteville, NC
902 Bridges St. Moorehead City, NC
I called information for any Piatt listings in and around Kinston/Goldsboro,
but it looks as though Mark is not in the area. I've made a mapquest map to
1013 B. Walnut St and plan to ask a couple of neighbors if they
know/remember anything about the family.
Using the SSDI database's advanced search I also discovered a second Piatt
with the same "Last Residence" location of (Kinston, Lenoir, NC). There is
an art to using Advance Search engines ... you have to spend a lot of time
manipulating the different fields/hits you receive:
Evelyn Piatt
b. 12/28/1905
d. 6/9/1994
Seeing as these are the only 2 Piatts listed for Lenoir County ever, and the
fact that they were both born and died within a few years of each other I am
assuming that Evelyn was James Weldon's wife.
James W Piatt
b. 8/29/1900
d. 9/1/1987
I'm sure I'll be able to confirm this suspicion once I research their death
certificates, obituaries, or find their places of burial.
My ultimate goal in this search is to locate Mark and/or any children he may
have had. My branch of the family has not had any communication with him in
a number of years.
Thanks for your Help!!
