Hi Eddie,
I am now back to my PA home from my FL home where we winter. As promised, I
briefly checked my records to see what I could tell you to get you further
along on your family line of research. My third great grandfather Isaiah
PIATT and your fifth great grandfather Asa PIATT
were the sons of Philip PIATT.
Your third great grandfather James PIATT (1824-1918) purchased a 210 acre
farm in 1858 near South Canaan, Wayne County, PA. In the 1960's this farm was
still in the family, owned by James REILLY. I had visited here about six
times getting Piatt family data. It was a beautiful area and a well kept farm
which started with your third great grandfather.
In your email to this list on 1/03/2006 you stated that your third great
grandfather James wrote a three page article detailing facts on his family. I
imagine this was the article that was printed in the Commemorative
Biographical Record of Northeastern Pennsylvania..
Am I correct in assuming this is the article? If it is, then that is great
that you have a handwritten article by your third great grandfather.
You also state that a relative who died about 2005 was your last oldest
relative. I assume this was Bernard Joseph Piatt, your grandfather. Am I
correct in assuming this fact?
I had corresponded in the 1960's and visited many in the line of ASA PIATT.
your family. One of the earliest was Mrs. James Francis (Edith Laura
McMinn), wife of James Francis PIATT, your great great great aunt and different ones
in their family.
James Weldon PIATT Jr. was buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
Another, was the Albert Bernard PIATT family, your great grandfather from
Mullins, SC.
Another was Bernard Joseph PIATT, your grandfather who lived at 2107
Kirkwood Dr., Salisbury, NC
Therefore, if you want to send me some questions on your family, I will
reply to you.
Thank you.
Richard O. Piatt, PA
