For Philly925:
I believe your Piatt line descends from John and Rebecca Piatt who were in the Montgomery Co OH census in 1820. We don't know Rebecca's maiden name. At least one of their sons claimed to have been born in either Rockbridge or Rockingham Co VA.
This line went on into Darke Co OH and Indiana counties. For years they had a large reunion. I don't know if they still do.
We have a participant who descends from John and Rebecca Piatt in our DNA study at:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Piatt
He matches others who feel they descend from Rene Piatt of New Jersey. He is also haplogroup R1b which is Northern Atlantic Modal Haplotype. In other words the male line comes from Europe and there is no Native American heritage in this line through the male side. If there is Native American heritage look to the females for it.
If you think the Native American heritage came through the strict female line--mother to daughter to daughter and so on and there is a daughter living, she can be tested for Native American markers. It might be a good idea to try to trace a female for testing to resolve the issue. Good hunting...
