Richard Pence's reply to this thread went ony to the PIATT-L list and not to the message board here where the discussion originated. I am taking the liberty to post his reply here. I checked the Piatt Family Newsletter again for George Franklin Piatt's birth and it gives 1876 which may be in error in light of Mr Pence's information. I also omitted mention of Rosella's possible third marriage which Mr Pence corrected in a separate message to the PIATT-L list.

I received a copy of your recent exchange about George Franklin Piatt as a result of the mention of PENCE in the messages.
I think the following census record provides some clues about George Piatt and Rosella Pence:
1900 Census, Manchester, Adams County, Ohio
PIATT, Frank head b Jul 1866 Ohio m 1 yr parents b Ohio farm laborer
Rosella wife 1 b Dec 1872 Ohio m 1 yr 7 children-4 living parents b Ohio
Minnie stepdau b Oct 1892 Ohio
Willie stepson b Nov 1893 Ohio
George son b Dec 1898 Ohio
This suggests:
1. George Franklin Piatt did indeed use the name Frank and that he is the
same as the Frank, age 14, in the 1880 census as the son of Horatio Piatt.
2. That the Piatt Family Newsletter listed his date of birth incorrectly as
1876 (should be 1866).
3. That Rosella had been previously married to another man whose surname was also Piatt (two Piatt stepchildren).
4. That the marriage date in the PFN for George Franklin Piatt and Rosella PIATT in 1898 is probably correct.
I think Rosella may have been the daughter of Thomas Nathan Pence and Rebecca A. Caffin (he used the name Nathan) of Adams County.
Your comments and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
