As all of you who have been subscribers to this list for more than a few
weeks know, I have often requested that you the members help keep the list
active by communicating to it.

Every so often something will be said by one of the subscribers that
indicates they are talking privately with another member...but that other
member is silent and often not contributing back to the list. I am not
saying that you can't talk privately to each other. But I want all of you to
try to understand my position so I will herein explain my position:

Since I am the list owner, it is up to me to insure that the list remains
active or to let it die completely. For the list to serve it's purpose there
must be on going communication among the members to the list. For those of
us who are serious genealogists, a way to help fill in some of the gaps or
just to get clues for further research is to hear from the descendants of
other REEB ancestors. For example, just as Ted Krieger, who just joined the
list is seeking proof as to whether his ancestor Margaret Reeb or Rieb was or
was not a daughter of Johann Theobald Reeb so that he can then continue his
line back in time one step at a time or even more in this case, there are
others of us who are trying to gather as much information as possible on the
various branches of the REEBS. Perhaps Mike Reeb, Werner Reeb, myself and
others here are exceptions in that we are interestede in all of the REEBS but
there are more than one descendant from many of the different branches of
REEBS on this list. In other words responses to posts from our members
should be posted so that all the list members can benefit from them. I am
not saying that you have to share everything you have with the entire list.
If someone who is a descendant of your Reeb ancestor does join this list and
you want to share a lot of information with that person, fine; but remember
you and that person are both members of this list and it is my opinion that
you too should contribute to the list.

Now, as many of you are aware in the past I have often complained to new
subscribers about their failure to post an introduction and basic information
about their Reeb family. As I have said, this is not just a newsletter type
list. I feel that I have been more than generous with my information and I
would hope that all of you would do the same. Recently I think we have
become more successful in getting the new subscribers to post to the
list...and when that happens it is up to the rest of you to welcome that
person. Some of you have been much better than others about this. Some of
you know full well that you have been doing little more than lurking and not
contributing nothing to the success of this list. If everyone just reads and
no one posts then my question to you is why should we bother with a list in
the first place. The purpose of this list is to communicate.

To all of you who have been active and communicating back and forth to the
list, thank you very much.

John V. Reeb
