Subject: [REEB-ROOTS-L] Three George REEBS in Nebraska part two
Date: Sat, 10 Jul 1999 18:38:55 EDT

The other Reeb family in Keskastel that provided immigrants to Nebraska was
that of Johann Friedrich Reeb. He was married twice and both wifes were REEB
descendants. So again, as I stated in part one, when we talk about lineages
of the Nebraska REEBS confusion reigns. However, in this case there is
another interesting aspect. This Johann Friedrich REEB was born in Keskastel
but his lineage does not trace back to the earlier settled Keskastel REEBS
instead his father had come from Voellerdingen to Keskastel and from a branch
of the REEB family who earlier lived in Lorentzen.

Johann Friedrich REEB born 13 Feb 1821 in Keskastel. Died 19 Jul 1914 in
Keskastel. Son of Johann Jacob REEB (1796-1875) and Eleonora Magdalena
Rothhan (1798- ?). He married first on 12 Apr 1849 to Catharina REEB.

Catharina REEB born 27 Mar 1824 in Keskastel. Her parents were Johann
Heinrich REEB (1800-1856) and Margaretha Magdalena Maurer (1798-1846). Their
children were all born Keskastel.

1. Frederic REEB born 23 Mar 1850
2. Jacques REEB born 30 Dec 1851.
3. Catharine REEB born 24 Sep 1853, died 2 May 1863.
4. Caroline REEB born 17 Aug 1855. Died 1934, ? , Bas-Rhin, France. Married
25 Apr 1878 in Harskirchen to Peter Quirin. Three children: Catherine Quirin
(?), Georg Frederic Quirin born 27 Apr. 1879, Harskirchen, died in Rimsdorf,
Carolina "Lena" Quirin born 27 Sep 1877 in Keskastel. She married and
immigrated to the U.S. also.
5. Henri REEB born 15 Oct. 1857, Keskastel. Married 13 Jul 1880 to Magdalena
Birki. (Note: When Dr. Paul Reeb and I visited Keskastel in 1988 one of our
hosts was Mr. Roger REEB who was a descendant of Henri REEB. Roger, now
deceased, told me about his sister Mrs. Irene Suit who lives in St. Charles,
Mo. Gail Ferris and Irene do correspond).
6. Nicolaus REEB born 28 Jul 1859.
7. Christine REEB born 5 May 1862. Died 9 Sep 1862.
8. Sophie REEB born 5 May 1862. Died 11 Sep 1862.
9. Catharine REEB born 30 Oct. 1863. She died 7 Jan 1947. She was the
mother of George K. REEB born 7 May 1885 (Gail's grandfather, who was the
youngest of the three George REEBS in Nebraska) and Catharine REEB born 23
Aug. 1891, who married Heinrich "Henri ROEHN." Henri Roehn was killed during
the first battle of the 1st World War in France.

Johann Friedrich REEB married second on 2 Feb 1865 in Keskastel to Catharina
Magdalena Erlenbach.

Catharina Magdalena Erlenbach was born 5 Apr. 1865 in Keskastel. Her parents
were father: Johann Theobald Erlenbach (1805-1875) Note: here is more
confusion as he too is a REEB descendant, being son of Johann Philip Peter
Erlenbach and Anna Eva REEB.. The mother of Catharina Magdalena Erlenbach was
Catharina Magdalena REEB (1806-1867).

Children of Johann Friedrich REEB and Catharina Magdalena Erlenbach: Numbers
will continue from the first family of Johann Friedrich REEB; the children
listed below are half - siblings to those listed above:

10. Charlotte REEB born 1 May 1866. Married George REEB. See further
details on them in Part one. This is how the two REEB families in Nebraska
come together...even though they would be distant kin anyway, since both
groups descend from more than one line of the descendants of Heinrich REEB
the early REEB ancestor in Keskastel.
11. George F. REEB born 18 May 1868. (immigrant to Nebraska, 2nd George in
age) and as you can see he became brother -in- law to the older George REEB
in Nebraska. Both would have been uncles to George K. REEB, Gails
grandfather. This George F. REEB was married twice and had children by both
wifes. Recently a Family reunion was held in Nebraska and George's daughter
Mae Magdalene REEB was honored as she will be 90 years old this year. She
was born 16 Oct 1909 in Nebraska. George F. REEB died 19 Jan 1944 in
Hordville, Nebraska.
12. Theobald REEB born 26 Mar. 1870, died 1 Apr 1870.
13. Sophie REEB born 20 Aug. 1872. Died 17 Feb. 1944 in Central, Nebraska.
She did immigrate as you can see but she never married. She seems to have
been very popular among the REEBs in Nebraska and a very long obituary was
published after her death proclaiming her good works and from reading it one
senses that she was loved by everyone who knew her.
14. Magdalena REEB...twin to Sophie, born 20 Aug 1872. She died 24 Oct.
1872. Note that Johann Friedrich REEB fathered twin girls by both marriages
and one in each set was named Sophie. All died in infancy except Sophie just
above.

If anyone has questions about this please feel free to ask. If you see
mistakes...sorry about that.

John V. REEB
