Dear Bill ~
Welcome to the list; here's another long shot for you. [FYI - I've indicated my own direct line with an *.]
Alexander SHAFFER b. 27 Jul 1830 - d. 1908, m. 29 Sep 1859 Amanda REED b.1839 in South Canaan, Wayne Co., PA - d. 1913. She was the d/o John S. REED and Mary CURTIS who
both d. in Wayne Co., Pennsylvania. I don't have any additional information on Alexander Shaffer, but Ido for Amanda Reed (her siblings, parents, ancestors but not
descendants, etc.) I thought there may be a common family relationship(s) with yourHenrietta REED and/or Hiram SHAFFER.
Amanda REED (SHAFFER) was d/o John S., s/o Nathaniel, s/o Nathaniel, s/o *Samuel REED who m. *Sarah KELLOGG (most common progenitor with my line).
My line of REED's came from Wendron, Cornwall, Eng. <*James REED/REID??? b. there abt. 1606???>; his son, *John REED, Sr. b. there 16 Mar 1632/33, in abt. 1660, he "fled to
this country on the restoration of Charles II", apparently living for a time in Rye, NY and settling in Norwalk, CT; his son *John, Jr., John Jr's son *Samuel, Samuel's son
*Hezekiah(I) and his son *Hezekiah(II) REED were all born in Connecticut; with *Hezekiah(II) apparently emigrating to the Ligionier Valley, <Fairfield Twp.?>, Westmoreland
Co., Pennsylvania, sometime aft. 1814, following service in the War of 1812 under Gen. Wm. H. Harrison; he, Hezekiah(II), was at the Battle of Fort Meiggs on Lake Erie where
he was shot through the right arm, afterwhich he was promoted by Gen. Harrison to wagonmaster. Other occupations included farming, surveying, "lumbering on the RodBank &
Alleghany rivers and boring for salt on the Comonaugh river in Westmoreland Co., PA." Though this is a different branch, I included this geographical outline of my line,
thinking there may be some clues/connections for you.
If any of this looks like it might be tied in to your line, I'll be glad to share more. Also, my info is a compilation of various resources, some more proven than others, so
always double-check for yourself. Don't hesitate to ask "where'd ya get that???" I love corrections, additions, etc.
God bless and I hope you find your connection,
Freda Hart
