I was looking over a partial listing of Rowan Co., Marriages 1753-1868
covering only the Reed marriages alphabetically from James Reed to
William Reed.

There is the marriage that Abner Pace was bondsman for in 1856--William
E. C. Reed (not Reid as in previous records) m. Susan Bevings, 28 Oct.
1856. I have long suspected that there is a tie between the groom and
Abner Pace's wife JULIA ANN REED (of Guilford Co., NC origin).

Just above this entry is the marriage of WILLIAM B. REED on 11 May 1836
to MARGARET C. LAURANCE, bondsman Archibald Gillespie.

I couldn't help recalling when I saw this that in 1870 Rowan Census
report, Abner PACE and Julia Ann REED had a M. Catherine REID living
with them, and she was shown in 1870 as 34 years old and was "keeping
house" ; Julia was shown as age 40 (but we know she would be around 44-45
years old in 1870). Perhaps all ages are incorrect on this census for
our people. I was reading this from a film of the handwritten census.
In the 1860 transcribed census this lady was listed as Mary C. REED, age
23, and Julia Ann as 35 years old, which seems to be more correct; they
all appear to be living in the house of Moses Smith (postmaster) and
family, perhaps renting rooms.

Does anyone have a link to either Mary C. or M. Catherine Reed/Reid in
the 1860 and 1870 census reports of Rowan Co.? This may be the same
person.

Does anyone have a link to the Margaret C. Laurance who married William
B. Reed in 1836?
