Hi Jack,

Sorry to take so long to get back to you with information re Thomas Saunders Steere and George Henry Steere (email 5/2/2008). Here is what I have.

Henry Steer/e and Elizabeth Jane Saunders had 7 children (recorded in 1851 census): including

Thomas Saunders Steere born 16 April 1827 Devon, England married 12 June 1854 at Plymouth, England Emma Popplestone born 6 May 1828 (parents Robert Popplestone and Mary Leight). Thomas died 14 September 1890 in Warrnambool. Emma died 19 June 1902 in Warrnambool.

Thomas and Emma emigrated to Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia prior to 1860, as it was a letter from Thomas saying that work was plentiful that prompted his younger brother, James Steere (my great great grandfather) to emigrate in 1860. A letter from my mother's cousin, Henry Hickford, says that Thomas Saunders Steere settled in Warrnambool in 1854.

Thomas and Emma had 9 children:
