Hello Marilyn,
This is just to check if you've come across Fanny, wife of John JANES, who
was living at 21 Foundry St, Brighton in 1881 with her husband and baby
daughter and her mother Sarah MARCHANT aged 71, widow. I didn't spot the
relationship at once as Sarah was listed as a lodger in a rather crowded
house, not as mother in law.
It's a complicated story with this family because John Janes is an 'alias' -
he was really Trayton Ford! He kept changing his name. I'm not related to
the Marchant family myself but to 'John Janes'. I only found this
information - and several Janes cousins - through a third person looking for
Marchants..
If you are interested you have three lines of research you can follow.
Details of the Janes family and this curious story are on my website in the
history section - www.lupton2.freeserve.co.uk or you can ask me. Another
line you should follow if you haven't already and weren't on the list at the
time, is to look up the archives of the Sussex list for 2001 and probably
2000 as well, for MARCHANT. I gather there was quite a discussion about it
then.
Regards,
Barbara Lupton
