Yes, that's exactly what I've been doing. In Feb. my hard drive bit the
dust, big time. I was able to backup my TMG data. I thought. Turns out that
the hard drive's FAT was shot and my SQZ file was corrupted; it was cross
linked with a .wav file. Would you believe the tune "Bad Boys"! I shipped
the file to Wholly Genes, but it didn't come back for months. Then they told
me they couldn't reconstruct it. In the meantime I figured out how to
retrieve most of the data myself, including all the people and their
relationships. But all the place names were screwed up and so were my source
references. I reconstructed my sources and have been working hard on the
place names. Somehow all the place names "jumped" so that, e.g., someone
born in Québec in the 1600's automagically got to be born in Hartford
Connecticut. At least the dates were OK.
One thing is still happening that I can't for the life of me figure out.
When I key to start a new tag, it comes with a random citation built in,
which I have to erase. Go figure.
But I also have to completely redo every single tag. We're talking about
10,800 some odd people, and climbing. I was real conscientious about
documentation too. So this is a real heartbreak. It will probably take the
rest of the year just to clean up my data. Right now I am just trying to
finish my direct line ancestors, so I can do a good pedigree or ahnentafel.
Now I've got a couple of errors for Wholly Genes techies to work on. Oh
well, it keeps me off the streets!
Thanks again to all on the list. I really like this one for its civil tone
of voice. Again, I apologize for sending my error report to TMG-L when it
was intended for Wholly Genes.
