Dave -- Bob Gillis' response gave you part of what you wanted. As for the
progenitors, I have made a flag TWIG for people with Father-ID = 0 and
Mother-ID = 0. Then I can use the filter
TWIG flag = 0 AND
is an ancestor of [me] AND
sex flag = M
when I want to make a descendants report for all lines.

As for the plus signs, on the Type tab, select the style button for Record
(or NGSQ) format. These are the designations for the so-called "modified
register" format you want. (Elizabeth Shown Mills has pointed out on the
list more than once that the term "modified register" is inaccurate. For
my part, I believe that it's a lost battle, like not calling January 1,
2000 the millenium and not using the word BandAid for other brands of
bandages.)
