Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately it doesn't solve the problem.
As the information message states that it has modified the CONFIG.FPW file, what appears to be happening is that each time TMG is started, the following lines are appended to the file:
CODEPAGE=AUTO
TIME=20000
So if you start TMG ten times and then look at the file, you will see 10 instances of the above text. And TMG still doesn't start.
TMG is the only program so far which hasn't weathered the move. The other solution may be to partition my hard disk, have two different installations of Windows (one English, one Japanese) and use a dual-boot option. The alternative - trashing TMG and changing to something like FTM - doesn't bear thinking about. ;-)
