Tony,
In such circumstances, I would open the Gedcom files in a powerful
line-based ascii editor like Textpad (from http://www.textpad.com) and then
use its global search and replace to remove the apparent blank lines before
importing the file into TMG. (You can also convert files here from the UNIX
line-break to the windows line break sequence.)
