All,
I see 2 significant problems with the proposed idea of a newsgroup:
soc.genealogy.computing.wholly-genes
(1) One is the idea of a newsgroup - in many *international* market places
the soc.
family of newsgroups are *not distributed* so many users could not see it
(just like the problems we have we with Compuserve forums!!)
(2) The charter seems to be too narrow - limited to only products provided
by wholly-genes.
(2.a) Where does the discussion of John Cardinal's utilities belong.
(2.b) Where does the discussion of importing and exporting of data
between TMG and other systems belong? (See my proposed revision of the
charter below.)
I for one, cannot subscribe to the soc. groups as my ISP *will not feed*
the soc. newsgroups. Therefore, I can not see their contents unless they
are gatewayed by another mechanism rather than a newlist feed.
I would *VOTE AGAINST* such a proposal unless
(A) the charter was broadened
A.1 - to allow discussion of Wholly-Genes related products (e.g.
3rd party utilities)
A.2 - to allow discussion of the inter-operability of Wholly-Genes
products with other products
(B) the content of the newgroup was not hosted somewhere such that it does
not require the local ISP to take the feed for users to be able to interact
with such a newsgroup.
(C) If this meant that the mailing list TMG-L was to be replaced by this
mechanism to the detriment of some (especially distant) current TMG users.
