Bob,
You could simply make all the dataset files read-only. In Win9x, select the
group of files, right-click on any one of them, choose properties, and check the
read-only box. A possibly major inconvenience is that if you try to add or edit
data, you get dumped out of TMG (without any damage, in my limited experience.)
I haven't tried precisely this, but I have a little experience with a dataset
on a CD-ROM, I'm pretty confident it will work the same way.
The other possibility that occurs to me is to make a backup, and then make
the backup read-only.
