occur except deliberately. OTOH, if you have merge a dataset from someone
else that has changed the TemplatesPatterns, that might explain it although
I think that would cause a conflict which would require you to change one
of them to match the other before the merge and that leaves us back to
square one.

I looked at these with a more analytical eye over the weekend. It appears
that every source that has a messed up set of data entry fields is one
where, while I was still in Lackey, I had overriden one or more of the
output sequences (usually Short Footnote, occasionally Bibliography). I'm
not sure why this would have affected my input fields, but that seems to be
the case. I think that earlier you had mentioned something about the
output, and if so I think you found the root of the problem.

In going through the sources over the weekend (and especially having them
sorted numerically) I concluded that by this time most of them are in
tolerable shape. That is, now that I've gotten each one pegged to a
template that bears some faint resemblance to what it is, and filled in the
Unknown Recipient on all the letters, etc. The ones we've been discussing
are still a problem, but they represent something like 10 or 15 sources,
not hundreds.

One discovery I made (I'm sure you already know this, but others won't) is
that if I make an initial Subject or Repository Address conditional (put it
in brackets) on the template, this messes up the alphabetizing on
bibliography. So does adding quotation marks to the Article Title for
newspapers (I had added Article Title to the Bibliography template output
since I seldom have the name of the newspaper, and thus have a string of
"Unknown Newspaper" and "Fargo Forum?"). However, I think I would rather
put up with manually alphabetizing the bibliography on the rare occasions
that I need it.
