Paul,
Assuming you have a sound card, you can "record" from any audio source to a .wav file (or other digital audio format.) You can then save the .wav on CD or use it to create an audio CD that can be played on a stereo CD player. You will
need a patch cord to connect the output of your amp or tape player to the Line In jack of your sound card. The sound card is probably 1/8". The other end may need to be 1/8" or RCA.
If you are satisfied with the sound quality of your tapes, you should be able to do this using, minimally, Windows Sound Recorder and/or the software that came with your CD writer. If you want to enhance the sound quality by reducing tape
hiss and background noise, you'll need an audio editor. I like a shareware editor called CoolEdit (www.syntrillium.com,) but there are a number of good ones. You may have bought an adequate one with your CD writer. There is a substantial
learning curve to doing ultimate sound cleanup, but you can make a big improvement with one or two straightforward steps.
Feel free to ask for more details, either on- or off-list.
