When you go to the report definition screen for the report you can go to
the STYLE tab and then set the shadow colour as white. It will then
disappear for all intents and purposes. If you drag the box close up to
some other element you may find that part of that element, such as a line,
seems to disappear. If that happens it will be because the box shadow is
still there (although white) and has covered that element. You can deal
with this by selecting the box and clicking on the icon on the toolbar
which sends that image to the back. Conversely you can click on part of
the obscured element and bring that to the front.
You can save even more space either by setting the box border white so that
it disappears, and you can then put things even closer together (again, the
box is still there); or you can overlap boxes with the border still
visible. This has the advantage of keeping the information separated in
boxes.
