Subject: TMG-L: What is this report?

To all,
I have seen a few examples of reports formatted like the following:
1 Thomas Rice
2 Henry Rice d: November 1621 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England
+Elizabeth Frost b: March 24, 1587 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England
3 Edward Rice
2 Edmund Rice b: 1594 d: May 3, 1663 in Marlborough, Middlesex,
Massachusetts
+Thomasine Frost b: August 10, 1600 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England d: June
13, 1653
3 Mary Rice b: August 23, 1619 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England
3 Henry R. Rice b: February 13, 1620 in Stanstead, Suffolk, England d:
February 10, 1710
+Elizabeth Moore d: August 3, 1705 in Framingham, Middlesex, Massachusetts
4 Mary Rice b: September 19, 1646 in Sudbury, Middlesex, Massachusetts
+Thomas Brigham
...
(Note that the report may wrap by the time you see it; in my version, lines
begin with a number or a plus sign only)
Does this format have a name? Will TMG produce it? Is it a common report
format for other programs?
And perhaps the bigger question--why is it used? It's very dense, but
difficult (IMHO) to read as a result. Descendancy narratives are less dense
but easier to read.
Thanks for any info...
John
