If you send a book to the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, give permission for
them to microfilm it and circulate it to the branch libraries. That will ensure that your
book makes it into the granite vault on microfilm. If the book is microfilmed, they often
won't keep the book (depending on what it is). You can ask them to microfilm the book and
return the original to you (which I have had them do). This is a free way of getting
something microfilm and putting it into many hands of many people. I think you can even
request a copy of the microfilm yourself. Of course a copy of the book should be sent to
many other different libraries, etc., especially where the family was located, and most
importantly, placed in the hands of many family members.
