Subject: TMG-L: Help on [P] variable, 2nd occurrence not working?
Date: Thu, 2 Mar 2000 15:52:08 +0800

Hello all

I am having trouble in making the second occurrence of the sentence
variable [P] to make **he/she** in the following sentence structure.

the **[P] [M1]** bit below should read [P]="He" was a farmer....But all I
get is the [P] =Thomas McWatters, as this is the second [P] in my template
why does this not work? I think I have tried moving brackets and not
getting anywhere

I know I can just write it into the memo [M1] But why? can I not get this
to work. The help files notes the following

**[P]Current Principal, Full name. A pronoun (he/she) is used for the
second and subsequent sentences for the same person.**

<On [D]> [P] was listed as head of household in the [M2] <in [L].> <[PP]
name was recorded as [M3].> [P] [M1]. <Enumerated with [P1] in this
household were [WO]>

On 19 April 1901 Thomas McWatters was listed as head of household on the
"1901 Census of Ireland" in Inishargy, County Down, his name was recorded
as Thomas Watters. Thomas McWatters was a farmer aged 42, married.
presbyterian, able to read and write, His place of birth was given as
County Down. Enumerated with Thomas McWatters in this household were Eliza
Jane Miller and William McWatters.

I thought I was on my way to nutting this one out for myself but I am
obviously missing the point some where.
Any help on why this second [P] will not work for me would be greatly
appreciated.
