I think you misunderstand my point, which is not inconsistent with
yours. Perhaps I should have phrased it: WHEN English recorders
of dates prior to 1752 used the term "New Style" to refer to a date
between Jan 1 and Mar 25 as belonging to the new year, they were
not in error." I did not mean to imply that ALL English recorders
of dates 1582-1752 used "New Style," but obviously some did or we
wouldn't be having this discussion.
I apologize for the ambiguity, but really I think that both of our
statements are correct.
