Subject: [TMG-L:] TMG-L: GEDCOM for RootsWeb - Follow-Up
Date: Mon, 01 May 2000 22:08:11 -0400

First of all, thanks to Terry Reigel for his excellent writeup on the
subject. For several
months now, while lurking, I have regularly cut and pasted valuable info
I found in this
forum to a TMG Hints file. Terry's writeup is the most recent addition.

Several months ago I posted a question here that perhaps because it was
not well stated,
was not answered in a way that was useful to me. It pertained to
generating a GEDCOM
for the RootsWeb WorldConnect project. Regularly, when I generated a
GEDCOM using
TMG, the resulting file would only show the married surname of each
wife. For example,
my g-g-grandmother was shown as CAMPBELL on the page where her husband
was
the focus instead of Elizabeth BUMGARNER.

In my TMG data file, on the page for her husband, the MARR-BOND tag is
listed as primary.
On her page, the NAME-MARR is not primary and simply shows CAMPBELL and
the
MARR-BOND tag is primary.

While going through Terry's instructions, I decided to experiment and
find what was
causing this. It turns out that if, on the Options tabbed page of the
GEDCOM setup
you select Names - All Variations, you get the CAMPBELL. If you select
Names -
Primary Only, you get Elizabeth BUMGARNER. It is not intuitively
obvious to me why this
is happening. Can someone explain this to me? (I'm not a newbie, but
not an experienced
TMG user either.)

Thanks,

Jim Campbell
