I'm still trying to figure out how to import GEDCOM files...

If, for instance, a family member sends you a GEDCOM of a branch of
your family and it contains a couple hundred people, many of which you
already have (but don't know if the their data is exactly the same as
yours) and many you don't have - How do YOU input the data?

Do you print it out and enter it all manually checking each and
every person?
Do you import it and straighten out duplicates and changes manually?
Or is there a technique for importing/merging that I don't know
about that would handle this situation.
