I'm sure Lee or any of the others who have had a lot of experience in this can
tell you easily how to do import a GEDCOM, what I wanted to share is my own
experience. When I began, I was quite sure that I would import GEDCOMs and other
TMG data sets into my own data set and then perform whatever "fixes" were
necessary. Of course, this was after the data set to be imported was "cleaned
up." What I found was that it was much more interesting and rewarding to do the
work manually. Perhaps if I were doing a one name study and imported thousands
of additional names I would reconsider...but I am not. Anyway, when you actually
look at every piece of information and determine how you are going to enter it,
you really learn a lot about the new people and how they fit with your family.
So as yet, I've never imported a data set directly into my main data set.
