The simple answer is that you use File/Import from.../GEDCOM. This imports the
GEDCOM into a new TMG database.
The more complicated question is what do you do than? You could use the
File/Merge function to merge the new file with your existing TMG file if you
want. But you will have to merge any people that are duplicates of people already
in your file. There is a report that will help you find them if they aren't
obvious, but you still have to merge each one, and them straighten out the
duplicate and conflicting tags that result, including straightening out any
source references as you eliminate duplicate tags.
Bud Dorr suggested in a previous message the value of manually adding any data
from the GEDCOM into your own file (in addition to his reasons, I would add the
idea that you wouldn't want to incorporate any sources in the GEDCOM without
editing them to show they were seen by the sender, but not you.) But the problem
is that for now you cannot have both the file from the GEDCOM and your regular
file open at the same time -- Bob V's announcement of version 5.0 says it will do
that when it is available. So for now I find this is a great use for my old copy
of FTM - I import the GEDCOM into it, and open both it and TMG so I can compare
the files, and cut and paste any data I want to incorporate.
