Subject: [TMG-L:] Re: TMG-L: importing-merging records

I'm a UFTer with my TMG on order, but I doubt my method will change. I
usually have UFT open with my master database and simultaneously have FTM
open with the new GEDCOM, and sometimes I have WORD open with a report from
the new GEDCOM exported from FTM and I cut and paste selected bits of info
between. I have never imported a whole GEDCOM into my own database.
Several reasons for this:

1) Usually they have a lot of people that I'm not interested in.

2) I like to make notes when what they have disagrees with what I already
have (often). That requires slow, deliberate input and often re-checking
other sources to determine which ones I trust the most.

3) I like to "know" my people. I like to really read and understand what's
in the new GEDCOM.

4) UFT has some GEDCOM issues which aren't of interest ot this group.

I think I heard that ver 5 of TMG (or was that Legacy?) will allow more than
one project to be open at a time, which would eliminate the need for FTM as
a GEDCOM reader, but I'd still cut and paste from the new project into my
master.

Just my method. I'm sure others have others.
