Good point, Joe.

This could be confusing if more than one Jane Doe appeared on the
same page and you were citing similar sources for them. Although I
very rarely use endnotes, for those who do I can see the value of the
date in the short footnote because with endnotes it is not a case of
just glancing up to the text to see the person to which the citation
refers. As I do occasionally create a report in Ascii using endnotes
-- to send via email -- I can see I need to leave the date field.
