As long as the tags in Reunion are valid GEDCOM tags, TMG will import them
properly. Similarly, if you use a text editor to modify the tag names in
the GEDCOM file to valid GEDCOM tag names, then TMG will import them
properly.
Now if the tag name is not a valid GEDCOM tag, then if Reunion will export
custom tags (or you modify the GEDCOM file) using the provision for such
tags (as shown below:
1 EVEN
2 TYPE Birth-Reg
2 DATE 08 MAR 1849
2 PLAC Mt. Sterling,, Kentucky,
2 SOUR @S30@
where the Tag Label is placed as a 2 level Type entry under the 1 level
EVEN(t) tag type label) then TMG will import this properly with some
exceptions. The custom tag will be imported such that the data will be
imported to a Event-Misc Tag and placing the Custom Tag Type Label in the
Memo field like: "Type: Birth-Reg" (without the quotes). This will
provide for a fairly easy "clean-up" process whereby these Event-Misc may
be (for the most part) may be easily converted to Custom Tags when the tags
is created.
In regard to the "clean-up" process, once the GEDCOM is imported, the
Custom Tags would be created. Then each Event-Misc tag would be edited
(i.e., opened to the Tag Entry Screen). The editing would consist of
clicking on the Event button and choosing the proper Custom Tag Label
(shown in the Memo field). The Memo field would also be edited to delete
the "Type: xxxxx" (where xxxxx is the tag label) as it would no longer be
necessary with the change to the correct custom Tag Type. In most cases,
this would be the extent of the editing as most Custom Tags would be
created in the Other Tag Group. For those that were not created in the
Other Tag Group (i..e, Birth, Marriage, Death, Or Burial Groups), then a
different process would be needed (add the custom tag to the person and
copy/paste the information to it). This normal editing (of tags in the
Other Tag Group) would take care of most of the work and the rest are
probably not that many.
Hope this helps -
