I'm not sure if it's less time consuming, but my method is a bit different, and
doesn't involve transcribing the detailed information into the memo. First, I
create a source, making each microfilm roll a source. I put the page, line, etc.
numbers (as apply) in the CD of each cite, using the repeat function to assist.
I cite the source on name, relationship, birth, and occupation tags that it
supports, adding additional notes in the CD where the data doesn't directly
support the tag, like "shows age 55" for a birth tag.
I've make custom census tags, one for each census year (with the census year in
the tag name, it's easy to see them at a glance in the person view, and they
differ slightly depending on the year.) I use this tag to record the enumeration
date, location, and any special notes, like the amount of real estate in some
censuses. I make the head of household and spouse the principals, and make all
others witnesses.
The principal sentence reads something like:
[P] <|and [PO]> appeared on the 1870 Federal Census< of [L]>< enumerated [D]><,
[M]>
and the witness tag is like:
[W] appeared on the 1870 Federal Census <of [L]> in the household of [P] <and
[PO]> <, [M0]>
It gets all the data entered, links all the participants on screen and in
reports, and reports people's locations at census time in a reasonably readable
way (for many of my folks, that's most of the location information I have). It
does not, however, allow you to create the list of people the way you want to.
Perhaps your idea to add info to the Lat.Long field will do that -- I haven't
tried it.
