Delia,

One thing to watch out for in the FTM to TMG GenBridge conversion is the
handling of "WFT Est" dates. They are converted to "Bet" dates and you are
informed of this only after the conversion has taken place. This is at least
one instance where TMG will actually change your data. I am still in the
process of preparing my FTM files for conversion to TMG and have made sure
to include a source citation for each of my "WFT Est" dates. This way I can
identify them after the conversion and change them back to more appropriate
"Est" or "Say" dates with an irregular date format. I leave the sort date as
a "Bet" date so that TMG will place the tag appropriately. Other than this
little glitch, my best advice is to convert a representative test dataset
extracted from your FTM file many times trying the various conversion
options available to see exactly what effect they have on your data. It's
the best way to minimize cleanup after your conversion and you get to learn
TMG while you tweak and tune your conversion procedures. Good luck in your
conversion. I think you'll like using TMG (esp. 5.0) once you make the leap;
I know I will.

Christopher and all:

I see that TMG has a tool called GenBridge to move data from other
programs,
including FTM and Family Origins.

I would really like those of you who have used this tool to move
data from
both FTM and FO to tell me what you think of it, and what pitfalls
to watch
for, if any

Regards. Delia Robertson.
