There are many type of compression that can be done on tiff files and I
believe Teresa hit the nail on the head herself when she said all her
problem photos have LZW compression. There are several types of LZW
compression and she probably used one TMG is having trouble with. Saving
the Tiff file with a different compression or saving the picture as jpg,
will as she discovered, solve the problem.

Teresa, also for your large photos. There's no need to re-scan them to make
them smaller. They can be resized in any photo editing program. It would
be much quicker that way...one advantage of going digital.

Also, there's been some discussion of photo captions or descriptions. Adobe
Photoshop has a particularly nice feature (probably other photo software
too) where a caption can be entered as part of the image's file. It doesn't
show when the photo is displayed, but can be read by things such as
ThumbsPlus and...(best part) it is also read by Win95/98 when you do a "find
file". So if I use Win98 to find all files containing the text "Jones" it
will find all my photos with that word in the caption no matter what the
file name is. Another "best part" is that the caption is never lost. It is
actually part of the image file. Now if only Win98 "find" could do boolean
searches...(e.g. find "Jones" AND NOT "Iowa") Anybody know of a 3rd party
"find" utility? Oh yeah, another "best part," once that caption is typed by
me, I never type it again. It can be cut and pasted anywhere.

And TIF is one of those supported. I have other pictures saved in the same
format that work fine. And some that do not.
