The above 1790 census is unrelated to the 1830 census below, is it not?
It's a different census. Where in the UFT report did the "Head, male, age
70-80" from the 1830 census appear? I suspect it never appears as, from
the TMG sentence constructed below, it would appear that Detail 1 (#A) was
not referenced in the UFT role sentence for the 1830 event.

Research notes have nothing do with your present problem.

What was the role sentence in UFT and how does it compare to what TMG
constructed?

Not sure what you mean "not the CRW Family Group Sheet, but the plain
vanilla TMG report?" If you mean you choose the Family Group Sheet from the
drop down Report Menu as opposed to chosing CRW which gives you a list of
reports and selecting the report from there, they are the same, just two
different was of selecting the report.
If you are running the FGS without making any changes to the settings, that
may be your problem. Under the Options 1 tab you should uncheck "Restrict
to BMDB". Under the Options 2 tab, under Tag Types you want All Tags or
Selected Tags and if Selected Tags, under Define make sure the census event
is Yes.

I've just got done editing over 5,000 records and am in the process of
editing another 2,000 records to fit better into TMG, nothing related to
what you're exeriencing. I don't think you'll have to edit all records but
may have to identify a group that you may want to take a look at and make
some changes.
>And, where did the extra blank memo 2 between || and || come from?

The blank memo 2 between the pipes represents what you had in Detail2 of
the event in UFT. You evidently had nothing. You evidently had "Head,
male, age 70-80" in Detail 1 in UFT.
