My TMG Utility program should be able to help you. It's donorware which is
similar to shareware; if you like the program, you can make a donation in my
name to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute (Jimmy Fund). It has a "Find and
Replace" feature that can be used to alter name fields. You have to be
careful to specify a "target" string that will not cause unintended changes,
but that not be a problem in this case.

First, you have to download and install the program. Start here:

http://sites.netscape.net/johncardinal/TMG/default.htm

Second, follow these directions:

- Close TMG if it is open.

- Start the TMG Utility program.

- Using File -> Open, open your TMG database.

- Select Find and Replace from the list of functions. It's near the bottom
of the list of functions that is on the left-hand side of the window.

- Choose "Given Name" or "Surname" from the "Field to change:" pull-down.
Choose whichever needs to change. If both need to change, you have to follow
these steps twice.

- In the "Find what:" textbox, key the following, without the quotes "N.N."

- Make sure that the "Replace with" textbox is empty--not even spaces. It
should be already, but to make sure you could click on it, hit ctrl-A to
select all, and backspace to delete.

- Leave the "In:" pull-down set to "<all name event types>", or select a
specific event type.

- Check "Contents must match Find What exactly" (All the other checkboxes
will be disabled)

For testing, turn on "Log Only" at the bottom of the screen. Then do a
"Replace All" to produce a listing that will show you all the changes that
would have been made if Log Only was NOT checked. Do it again with "Log
Only" off if you are satisfied with the test results.

The generic directions for Find and Replace are here:

Good luck.

John
