Hi John,
I thank you for taking the time to hash this out with me...at the risk of
trying your patience, I have a few more questions...
1) Would you follow the compilers names with "original compilers"? i.e.;
Footnote:
Ruth Wilder Sherman and Robert Moody Sherman, original compilers. ...
Bibliography:
Sherman, Ruth Wilder and Robert Moody Sherman, original compilers. ...
2) Would you use the phrase "re-edited by"? i.e.;
Footnote:
..., re-edited by Robert S. Wakefield,
Bibliography:
... Re-edited by Robert S. Wakefield.
3) I just noticed, while flipping through the bibliography in the Mills
book, that she does attach CG, FASG, etc.; should I put those back in?
4) I'm hesitant to leave out "Descendants of the Pilgrims Who Landed at
Plymouth, Mass. December 1620" from the series element (though I wouldn't
feel it necessary to include it in the Short Footnote). I question this
because Mills says, on page 37 of her book;
"If the title page of a book uses incorrect capitalization, it is
permissible to correct the usage in our citations. We cannot change the
words of the title, but we can properly captialize them."
She doesn't explicitly say we cannot omit title words, but I wonder if the
above statement implicitly prohibits ommissions. Does the CMS address
this? Thoughts appreciated.

I'm trying not to be obsessive-compulsive about this, but I do want to try
to set up this source properly. I do conciously commit a few faux-pas
though; I insert the word "page" before a page number in the CD, even
though Mills says not to, and I do spell out words such as compiler,
editor, volume, etc. I guess the style-police will be after me soon.
thanks, beth
p.s. as to your question about the placement of [CD1] and [CD2] - in the
template I changed [CD1] to [EDITOR] and [CD2] to [CD].
