old
source codes to TMG. I have my own coding system for which I don't want to
lose. What I have done so far is enter a custom source element called "plm
reference" -- then I enter the code CO1, CO2, etc. The only problem is that
when I am in the Person View that cross-reference source # doesn't show up
in
the Citation Box. Now I am thinking I should eliminate the "plm reference"
tag and include my original reference # in the Abbreviation field in the
Source Definition Screen. So my old Abbrev. was "Death (Wm. H. Coon)" and
my new one would be "Death-WHCoon (CO 1)." That way when I enter a citation
in the Person View I also see my old reference number (which is pretty
critical for me). Does anyone else have something that they've tried that
works?

I use the File Reference field. Then you can add it to your source. Say for
census you have the following: [HOUSEHOLD], [DATE] [RECORD TYPE], [LOCATION],
[SECOND LOCATION]<, [PAGE]> ; [RECORD INFO]<, [REPOSITORY REFERENCE]><,
[REPOSITORY ADDRESS]><, [PRESENT OWNER]><, [CD1]><. Hereinafter cited as
"[Date], [HOUSEHOLD]"> <; [File Reference]>.
You would get John Lannom, 1860 Federal population census, Wilson County, TN,
page 36; [National Archives Microfilm M33, Roll 125], Huntsville Public
Library, Huntsville, AL. Original in possession of author. Hereinafter cited
as 1860, John Lannom; LANNOM (1).
That way everyone would know that the record in question is in file folder
LANNOM (1).
You could put your source number there. My UFT numbers correspond with my
new TMG numbers, so I just put the file folder in the reference field.
