Strange, because from a single charge I get easily twice the number of shots
off my Digipower batter pack than a standard set of AA Alkalines and 3-4x
over NiCads.
The real difference IMHO is the realized price. The Digipower (or other
pack) is rechargeable. After about 200 pictures (rated at an average of 20
shots per set of 4xAA Alkalines @ $4.00/pack) the Digipower pays for itself.
But, I will take the unit back out to verify those numbers again. Perhaps
my memory is failing in my old age ;-)

We looked at these battery packs. The primary advantage is that they
are easier to change than the internal batteries. When doing a direct
power comparison, however, there is no "time" or "number of pictures"
advantage as the battery pack carries the same power ratings as a set
of four internal batteries for the camera. The disadvantage is the
$40-$50 price tag and I would still need four of them for a typical
shooting spree.
